Dagger Directive Role Builds
Four kits that survive a one-shot map if your feet agree.
A build in Dagger Directive is a pouch story, not a talent tree. These four kits are the ones we send people to after Getting Started. They match the loadout planner cards. Change the rail if you like; do not change the job mid-compound without a save.
Read Weapon ranks if you want letters. Read Gear if you keep forgetting NVGs. Read Stealth if the ghost kit still gets you shot on a road.
Ghost — silent insert
Primary: suppressed SMG or short rifle (P90 or MK18 if you like the 1.0 rails).
Secondary: pistol you will draw.
Pouches: recon drone, smokes, one lethal you understand, claymores for the route already cleared.
Clock: night only with NVGs; day if you are still learning walk.
The ghost does not tour. One door, melee when alone, displace after a mid-range shot. Drones first, rifle second. If a teammate is sprinting, you are not a ghost anymore — you are bait. Say that in Co-op before the ramp.
Assault — planned noise
Primary: rifle with underbarrel or a trusted mid rifle plus a dedicated breacher secondary.
Support: SAW if you have a downhill exit.
Pouches: smokes, frags, a claymore for the door you used, extra rifle ammo you will actually reload.
Save before the stack. Smoke the first panic lane. Do not ego peek after the first man drops — the second man is why reviews mention pink mist. This kit is for Europe stairwells and Pacific courtyards you already scouted. It is a poor first kit on Bering snow unless you like long, loud regrets.
Overwatch — ridge and mark
Primary: a rifle you will zero.
Tool: rangefinder, plus and minus, recon drone.
Pouches: spare rifle ammo, a pistol, smokes for the moment the patrol finds the hillside.
Ballistics is this build’s skill page. If you will not lase, pick assault. Overwatch in Co-op is a gift: you mark, they crawl. Solo overwatch still needs an exit. A perfect first shot and a frozen bush is how search parties write your Steam screenshot.
Grenadier — fuze discipline
Primary: M203, scoped M32, or OICW grenade mode.
Backup: a short rifle with at least one magazine.
Pouches: extra grenades if you insist, but a rifle reload will save you more often.
Lase. Then fire. Offset is a nudge, not a personality. Fragments have weight. This is the 1.0 toy that will generate the funniest deaths and the angriest teammates. Practice on a save you can delete. Community challenge threads (Grenadier Gordon, and worse) are optional spice after you extract once with a boring rifle.
How to pick a kit in thirty seconds
- Open the mission planner and set theater, clock, volume.
- If the brief says silent, take Ghost. If it says loud urban, take Assault. If it says open ice, take Overwatch or a loud SAW exit. If you brought the M32 on purpose, take Grenadier and admit it.
- Pack NVGs when the clock is night. This is not a style choice.
- Leave one pouch for the tool you actually use. A third novelty grenade is how people forget the drone.
What these builds are not
They are not unlock paths. They are not speedrun routes. They are not Workshop celebrity guns. They are a way to stop standing in the armory for twenty minutes before a Walkthrough map you already failed. When 1.0 adds another rail in a later patch, park it in one of these four jobs or it will live in the “funny” drawer forever.
If a build fails twice, change the clock or the door before you change your identity. The Walkthrough theater notes exist for that stubbornness.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Which Dagger Directive build should a new player use?
Ghost, day, silent, on a short official map. Learn walk and pouches before you take the M32.
Can I mix ghost and assault pouches?
You can. You will then sprint with a can and a SAW. Pick a job for the first attempt, then remix after a save.
Is the grenadier build serious?
Yes if you lase and keep a backup rifle. No if the launcher is your only ranged answer.
Do these builds work in co-op?
They work better in co-op if each player takes a different job. Four ghosts still need one person to peek.
